Lineage of zeus
Heisod's Theogony explains Zeus' divine lineage. Zeus and his wife Hera bore many sons and daughters. These included gods and goddesses such as Athena, Apollo and Artemis. Zeus said to his children, "He who was dishonored and without privileges, would gain honor and privileges." Gaia gave birth to Zeus, the god of the gods, on the island of Crete. Mother Earth, or Gaia, additionally gave birth to Poseidon, Hades, and Zeus' lover, Hera. Before having children with Hera however, he made Metis his first wife. Gaia also bore the cyclops Arges, who gave Zeus the thunder sound and also fashioned the thunder bolt. Using this, Zeus drove the titans from Olympus, as Zeus, "lifted up his might and seized his weapons, thunder, flash, gleaming, lightning, leaped from Olympus and smote them." Zeus also played a role in many other gods origin, as he is the "god of all gods and men".
